Golden Techniques Book

Hello! Thank you so much for your interest in Golden Techniques for Intermediate Strings!

This book was originally written with my students in mind – I wanted to find the best way to help them learn and develop new skills and techniques, and no method book was accomplishing that. After many years and several iterations, it feels complete, and I am thrilled to make it available to others!

This book is different than other Level 2 method books. Golden Techniques allows for focused, isolated skill and technique development. It is designed to align with your curricular goals, and to connect with your concert repertoire. Each unit is centered around one right- or left-hand skill. The skill is introduced simply, and is repeated and developed over the course of the remaining exercises. And as the unit progresses, each skill or technique is employed in ways commonly seen in “intermediate” literature (Grades 1.5-3.5).

Additionally, Golden Techniques provides teachers and students with the ability to center knowledge in their classroom. Instead of a pre-determined, incomplete list of terms and symbols, the glossary is blank. Teachers and students should compile their own list together, based on the terms and symbols encountered in their literature. Each student book also comes with blank staff pages, for music theory, composition, or other needs.

You can see sample pages below.

Units Include: Key Signatures (C, G, D, A, F, Bb Majors & their minors), 4th Fingers/String Crossings, Slurs, Dotted Quarter Notes, Sharp Extensions, Flat Extensions, Sixteenth Note Patterns, Harmonics, 6/8 Time Signature and Rhythmic Patterns, Second Position, and Third Position.
